I believe there are some who add by being on TV. However, many use it as a status symbol. Millions of $$ are wasted on air time on something no one really wants to watch. Use this $$ to fund more local church programs or actually produce a show worth watching. Think creative!

I think the words "Christian" and "TV" don't really go together. It's sad, but when I hear anything described as "Christian," I assume it's not good. According to Rob Bell, I think, the word "Christian" should never be used as an adjective.

And, yes, I'm not a TV-church watcher. I think there's a stigma attached to all that. I just flip through it. I think everyone is turned off by it, except maybe some older folks who can't leave their house.

Just my opinion. Good questions.

Its funny that the only television show for the past two decades that has shown a family consistently going to church together is 'The Simpons' on FOX. Who would have thought that a cartoon would be the only consistent means of showing some form of family values on Prime Time for so long!?

I would like to see some more movies/comedy without the cussing; movies without all the nudity and sex. We are lacking any good entaintment for the whole family to watch together.

That leads into a post I will putting up later this week on faith based tv shows selling ad time versus sponsorship. There is deff a long way to go to make it happen but i think its possible. When it comes to trying out a new format all it takes is time and creativity. Most pastors do not want to put the extra time in to preach in a different environment or to re shoot in shorter segments. Taking a risk and experiementing is ok and should be tried.

\\Christian TV doesn't look like secular TV because there's not enough high power Christian sponsors to fund the production effort. Most shows are the product of large churches or networks like TBN. The Christian audience can't (won't) and shouldn't fund through donations and the mainline sponsors don't think the target audience is viable. Most liberal special interest groups have no problem shelling out the bucks for what they believe and their moral standards allow them to buy the beer, cigarettes, flashy cars, etc. from secular sponsors. I am not implying that Christians buy a six pack but if we could somehow quantify our collective purchasing power it may attract better sponsors i.e. larger production budgets. There have been some good movies in recent past but again low budgets keep their production capabilities low.

I agree. There are some viewers that are hard fledge old school. I dont know what year it was the project aired but curious if perhaps with the passing of time the culture may have changed. I know the typical format of a pastor preaching from a pulpit does not bring in $$ like it once did. Also getting your format in front of the right eyes makes a big difference.

I totally agree and understand your point. There is another side to the equation. I worked for an organization that produced a "Western" Christian family themed show and they were constantly bombarded by Christian viewers upset that these Christian characters wore guns, let alone had to use them. They tried airing an infomercial, showing an episode, and offering the opportunity to join a video club to see try to gauge audience response. If my memory serves me right, they not only didn't make a single sale, they got a pile of complaints about the guns being in a drama set in the old west. So the other question is. . .Will Christians actually support alternative programming?

Alfsauve: Have you tried distrubuting your program via the web? Vimeo, Facebook, YouTube, Your own site? If your not able to afford air time this is a great way to start. Kids spend a good deal of time in front of the computer. You can also sell your shows on DVD if you need to bring in income.
