Has Christian TV Hurt or Helped the Local Church?

Tags: , , ,

Here is a thought. Looking back on the history of Christian TV, has it truly helped further the grow and success of the local church or has it robbed resources, money and energy? Are people more turned off by watching church on television that they may choose not to step foot in their own local church? Ok i’m throwing out alot of questions but I’m just wondering. I think there may be something to this. I want to hear your honest thoughts.

  1. I think the words “Christian” and “TV” don’t really go together. It’s sad, but when I hear anything described as “Christian,” I assume it’s not good. According to Rob Bell, I think, the word “Christian” should never be used as an adjective.

And, yes, I’m not a TV-church watcher. I think there’s a stigma attached to all that. I just flip through it. I think everyone is turned off by it, except maybe some older folks who can’t leave their house.

    Just my opinion. Good questions.

  2. I believe there are some who add by being on TV. However, many use it as a status symbol. Millions of $$ are wasted on air time on something no one really wants to watch. Use this $$ to fund more local church programs or actually produce a show worth watching. Think creative!
